Social Saver — Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 12, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Social Saver (the "App") handles information when you use it. We are committed to protecting your privacy while providing a fast, reliable way to save the public social media links you receive.

Summary

  • The App is an Android tool that saves public social media video links to your device (TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook).
  • The App does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email, phone number, or contacts.
  • No backend. Link resolution and video download both happen entirely on your device — the URLs you paste or share are not sent to any server we operate.
  • The App uses third-party services (Google AdMob, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics) for monetization and performance monitoring. Analytics and crash reporting can be disabled in Settings → Privacy.
  • All user-generated content (download history, downloaded videos) is stored locally on your device.

1) Information We Collect

We do not collect "Personally Identifiable Information" (PII) such as your name, email, or phone number. The App does not require account creation, and we do not operate a backend that receives your downloads or queries.

The App does send and receive the following non-personal technical data through third-party SDKs in order to function:

  • Device-level identifiers used by third-party services, including a mobile advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID on Android) used by Google AdMob, and a Firebase installation ID used by Firebase services. These identifiers are managed by your operating system and can be reset or limited from your device's privacy settings.
  • Crash diagnostics (stack traces, OS version, device model, app version) collected by Firebase Crashlytics when the App crashes. Can be disabled in-app.
  • Anonymous usage events (screen views, feature interactions, download success/failure counts) collected by Firebase Analytics. Can be disabled in-app.
  • Approximate location (IP-derived, typically city-level) inferred by Google's advertising and analytics infrastructure for ad targeting and aggregate reporting.

We do not collect, transmit, or store the URLs you paste or share into the App, the video content itself, or any metadata about which creators or accounts you save from.

2) Data You Provide

While using the App, you may paste, share, or open public video links from supported social platforms, then save those videos to your device.

  • URLs and link resolution are processed entirely on your device by a Python runtime bundled inside the App. Links are not transmitted to any server operated by us.
  • Video files are downloaded directly from the source platform (e.g. TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook) to your device over HTTPS. We are not a proxy for that traffic.
  • Download history, thumbnails, and playlists are stored in a local database and a local cache directory on your device.
  • Saved videos are written to the public Download/SocialSaver folder via Android's MediaStore so you can find them in your gallery or file manager.
  • Download history, playlists, and saved videos are never uploaded to our servers. They remain fully under your control on your device.

3) Permissions

The App requests the minimum set of permissions needed to function:

Permission Platform Purpose
Internet Android Downloading videos from the source social platform; reaching Firebase and AdMob endpoints.
Advertising ID (AD_ID) Android 13+ Used by the Google Mobile Ads SDK to serve and measure ads. Reset or limit this ID from system settings at any time.
MediaStore (implicit) Android Writing saved videos to Download/SocialSaver via the Android MediaStore API. WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is not requested.

The App does not request access to your camera, microphone, precise GPS location, contacts, calendar, SMS, call history, foreground service, notifications, network state, or system overlay.

4) How We Use Information

  • On-device resolver: to extract a direct video URL from the public social link you provide. Runs locally; no telemetry on the URL is sent anywhere.
  • Firebase Analytics: to understand which features are used most so we can improve the experience. Data is aggregated and not linked to your identity. Can be disabled in-app.
  • Firebase Crashlytics: to detect and diagnose crashes and stability issues. Can be disabled in-app.
  • Google AdMob: to display advertisements that fund the App. AdMob may use your advertising identifier to serve relevant ads.

5) Data Storage and Retention

All content you generate (download history, playlists, settings) is stored on your device only. It remains until you:

  1. Delete it within the App.
  2. Clear the App's storage via system settings.
  3. Uninstall the App.

Downloaded videos are standard files written to Download/SocialSaver. You can manage, move, or delete them at any time using your device's file manager, gallery app, or the App itself. Download history is also automatically capped (most-recent items retained) so the local database does not grow unbounded.

Because we operate no backend, there is no server-side record of the links you have saved or the videos you have downloaded. The third-party services we use retain the data they collect under the following policies:

  • Firebase Analytics event data is configured to be deleted within 2 months (Event data retention setting in our Google Analytics 4 property).
  • Firebase Crashlytics retains crash reports for 90 days by default.
  • Google AdMob retains advertising-identifier and ad-interaction data under Google's own retention policy.

This means all user-level data we share with third-party services is automatically deleted within 90 days.

6) Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal information, because we do not collect it. We only share the limited non-personal, technical data described in Sections 1 and 4 with the third-party service providers listed in Section 7. Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy.

7) Third-Party Services

Source social platforms

When you save a link, the App fetches video metadata and the video file directly from the originating social platform (currently TikTok, Instagram, X, and Facebook). That traffic is subject to the source platform's own terms and privacy practices. We are not a party to that connection beyond initiating it on your behalf.

Google AdMob

The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. Active ad formats include app-open ads (shown on cold-start launches only, skipped during share-intent flows and onboarding), interstitial ads (shown occasionally after a successful download), and native video ads (shown inline in the in-app video viewer). AdMob may collect advertising identifiers and ad-interaction data to serve and measure ads. See Google's Privacy & Terms.

Google Firebase Analytics

The App uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage statistics (e.g., session length, screen views, feature interactions, download success/failure counts). Data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. You can disable this from Settings → Privacy → Usage analytics.

Google Firebase Crashlytics

The App uses Firebase Crashlytics to capture crash and non-fatal error reports, including stack traces, device model, OS version, and App version. These reports are used solely to diagnose stability issues. You can disable this from Settings → Privacy → Crash reports.

8) Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through one of the third-party services described above, please contact us so the relevant identifier can be reset on the device.

9) Security

  • Communication with source social platforms, Firebase, and AdMob uses HTTPS.
  • We do not maintain user accounts or personal-data servers, so there is no central store of personal data to breach.
  • Locally stored data and downloaded files are protected by your device's own security features (lock screen, biometrics, full-disk encryption).

10) Your Choices

  • Disable analytics in-app: Settings → Privacy → Usage analytics.
  • Disable crash reporting in-app: Settings → Privacy → Crash reports.
  • Limit ad personalization: reset or limit your advertising identifier from Settings → Privacy → Ads on Android.
  • Delete local data: clear the App's storage from system settings, or uninstall the App.
  • Delete saved videos: delete them from within the App, or from the Download/SocialSaver folder using any file manager.

11) Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or in legal requirements. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective date" above. Material changes will be highlighted within the App where reasonably practical.
